Finding Time for What You Love

FINDING TIME FOR WHAT YOU LOVE

We all have the things we have to do that occupy our days, but what if we could find more time to do what we love. I’m still trying to get a handle on this concept because I love blogging, but lately life has taken over. So today, I want to share my top tips on finding time for what you love in hopes that this post will be a motivation and an inspiration.

Set Aside One Hour.

Or 30 min. Or 10 min. After a long day at work, you may reach immediately for the tv remote or maybe you spend endless amounts of time on social media. Instead, try to make a commitment each night to take a set amount of time to do what you love. Maybe that’s working on your side hustle (like this blog is for me), reading a good book, or being outdoors. For many of us, we spend 8-10 hours at our day job giving most of our energy to our work. However, try to keep that energy going when you come home to dedicate time to your passion before you retreat to catching up on The Bachelorette or binging the Real Housewives reruns.

Make a Plan and Schedule You Time.

I truly believe making a plan is the perfect way to keep myself on track. If your day job is scheduled, why shouldn’t your personal productive time be scheduled? I have notifications on my phone to remind me to have my devotional time and I just added a to do list in my planner for my weekly goals for this blog. If you’re anything like me, you don’t like a messy planner.  It’s so much easier to do the task and check it off than it is to cross it out and move it onto a different page. (Picture Monica from Friends haha) Anywayyssss…. Schedule in your hour of time. Have a notification go off at 7pm every night, reminding you that it’s time to write or read or whatever it is you like to do. You’ll begin finding time for what you love where you weren’t able to before.

Give Yourself a Break.

Believe me, I get it. It’s not always possible after working late and making dinner to do anything productive before heading to bed. And that’s okay. Some days will be like that. But maybe, you set extra time aside on a Saturday to pursue what you love. As I’m writing this post, it’s a Saturday after a very long week where writing was the furthest thing from my mind when I got home most nights.

If you turn finding time for what you love into a chore, it won’t be much of anything you love anymore. So there’s definitely a fine line between scheduling and just being. Find what works best for you. Maybe you’re more of a morning person and can dedicate those best hours to do the things you love. Or maybe you work very long days during the week, but have a three day weekend.  Schedule your extra day off to pursue your passion instead of being at work. Whatever it may be, give yourself some grace if you miss a week of being productive.  It’s okay, life happens.

It’s not always the easiest thing, working and having time for yourself to be productive. But, finding the time to do what you love is so very important. Doing what we love serves our greater purpose and passions. Even if it’s just 10 minutes a day, my advice is to go for it and start loving what you’re doing!

I am a big fan of scheduling EVERYTHING, including me time (like workouts or walks). I feel like I commit more once they go on my calendar.
