Must Haves for Every Type of Weekend Getaway

MUST HAVES FOR EVERY TYPE OF WEEKEND GETAWAY

‘Tis the season for weekend getaways and knowing your packing essentials. This week I’m sharing my must haves for every type of weekend getaway. Of course, there are the standard basics that everyone will want to remember to pack. But, depending on where you’re going for your getaway there may be a few extra things you’ll want to consider and won’t want to forget.

The Lake House:

  • Multiple Swimsuits. You’ll spend much of your long weekend soaking up the sun, swimming in the sparkling lake. Having multiple swimsuits ensures that even when a wet swimsuit is drying, you’re ready for round two. Grab that kayak or paddle board and go!
  • A Warm ZipUp or Hoodie. For every warm day, there may be chillier nights by the fire. Or, perhaps you want to enjoy some smores without swatting mosquitoes. Either way, we can’t predict every temperature drop so make sure to have a sweatshirt on hand.
  • A Cooler. Filled with ice cold drinks and snacks, a cooler can be the perfect convenience when you’re spending the day at the water. No trekking back to the house, a cooler makes lunch (or cocktails) on the go so much easier for you, your friends, and your family.

The Outdoor Adventure:

  • A Pair of Comfortable Sneakers. From hiking to zip lining, an outdoor adventure will always call for a pair of comfortable sneakers. Plus, you never know what plant or item you might find on your trail, so keep your feet safe and covered.
  • A Backpack. Snacks, water, jacket, first aid kit – fill that backpack up with anything you may need while spending the day outdoors. It’s always best to be prepared and you’re more likely to enjoy yourself if you’re not hangry or chilly.
  • Your Camera (or Cell Phone). Being in Vermont, I’ve learned to appreciate the views every time I’ve been hiking. Capture the moments shared on your journey or wait till you reach the top and see the rolling hills and the water in the distance. Maybe, you want a photo for your bucket list that you went zip lining. Either way, a picture says a thousand words – so don’t forget a camera to commemorate your weekend.

The Beach Town:

  • A Beach Hat. Whether your laying on the beach all day or walking the streets filled with shops, a beach hat is your perfect accessory. Protecting your face from the sun, covering your salty, wet hair, or just looking fabulous. A beach hat is a must have.
  • A Cute Wedge. Dinner dates or Sunday brunch, a cute wedge adds the perfect finish to any outfit. Wedges are a great shoe because they can dress up any outfit in an instant.
  • A T-Shirt Dress or Sundress. Multifunctional is exactly what you need for a weekend getaway. A dress that can be dressed down or dressed up is a must for any beach trip. You may simply wear it as a cover up after spending the morning at the beach. But, you may be surprised with a romantic dinner on the sea and need that dress to be dressed up.

The City Lights:

  • A Jumpsuit or Dress. When you’re staying the city, you’re bound to need to pull together a look for a night out. A jumpsuit or dress may not have come to mind if you weren’t planning a fancy dinner. But, packing one dressy outfit is perfect to ensure you’re prepared if the night plans change.
  • Crossbody bag or Clutch. A versatile bag that can be used for day or night is a must have for a getaway to the city. Wear it crossbody style during the day while shopping so you don’t have to worry. Then, tuck in the straps and go for a clutch style bag for your night out. No switching out purses. This is a simple way to pack less while still getting a 2-in-1 feel with your handbag.
  • Walkable Shoes. Staying in the city means lots of walking. From site seeing to shopping, you’re number one must have has to be walkable shoes. No blisters means more time enjoying yourself and spending more hours enjoying and exploring the beautiful city you’re visiting.

I hope these must haves for every type of weekend getaway were helpful! It’s so easy to forget things when packing, so I find making a list and thinking of possible scenarios helps to keep me prepared but efficient. What are your must haves?

♥ Jocelyn

Great post! I usually go to a lake house with friends for Memorial Day weekend and totally agree that a warm sweatshirt and sweat pants is a must! The evenings get so cold so quickly!
